Christian Yoga for When You Need A Shake Up: Part 4: Restorative Yoga

Welcome to the final video of the Christian Yoga for When You Need A Shake Up video series!

This series is inspired by the book 40 Days of Decrease by Alicia Britt Chole. This video draws from Day 39 of the book where we are challenged to fast intimidation and let go of shame.

Over the course of 25 minutes in this video, we do about 5 poses, the first two or three standing at the wall, and the last two lying on our mats using the wall as a support to fully surrender. It's a deeply restorative practice designed to help you fully engage with the spiritual truths woven throughout.

The Scripture we set our focus on comes from Matthew 28: 1-7:

Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.

Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there.

As we walk through this text, verse by verse, we ask Jesus what tombs we're still guarding in our own lives, tombs full of shame or fear, things that Jesus has already conquered that we now have the freedom and authority to walk away from.

“Is shame standing watch over any dead things in your life? Jesus died to forgive you - follow HIs example and forgive yourself. Fast guarding that tomb. Let an earthquake or an angel roll away the stone so that you can see that nothing is there anymore. It is empty. Jesus conquered it. Jesus removed it. All that is there now is light and hope. So rest, weary soldier. Jesus’ empty tomb means that shame has no ground on which to stand.” - Alicia Britt Chole, 40 Days of Decrease
